What “direct” actually changes

Most dock seals are sold through a distributor or a dock equipment dealer. You describe your door to a salesperson, the salesperson relays it to a manufacturer, the manufacturer builds it, and it comes back through the same chain. Every link adds margin, and every link adds a place for your measurements to get garbled.

Buying direct removes both. You talk to the person who builds the seal. When you say your opening is 9′2″ and the left side has a downspout eighteen inches off the frame, that goes straight to the shop floor instead of onto a form.

Custom costs the same as standard

This surprises people. Because every seal we make is cut and sewn to order anyway, building one to your exact opening is not an upcharge — it is just what we do. There is no “standard” unit sitting on a shelf that we discount against.

What that means practically: stop trying to make your door fit a catalogue size. Send the real numbers.

Lead time is the real difference

The common complaint about dock seals is not price, it is waiting. Orders that route through a distributor queue behind that distributor’s other orders, and the manufacturer is quoting the distributor, not you.

We work in weeks, not months. If we are backed up, Dave will tell you that on the phone rather than let you find out in week six. An honest date you can plan around is worth more than an optimistic one.

Who you talk to

You get Dave. He answers the phone, he quotes the job, and he is in the shop. There is no account manager, no ticket number, and no call centre. If something is wrong with what we sent you, the person who hears about it is the person who can fix it.

That is a small-company advantage and we are not pretending otherwise. We are a small shop in Tyler, Texas. It is also exactly why the measurements do not get lost.

Installation

Most crews mount their own. The brackets come with the seal and the backing frame is drilled to land on solid wall. If you have a maintenance team that hangs doors, they can hang a seal. If you would rather have it done, we can point you at people.

When buying direct is the wrong call

If you are re-equipping twenty doors with levellers, restraints, lights and seals as one project, a full dock-equipment contractor coordinating the whole thing may genuinely be worth their margin. We build one product and we build it well; we are not going to project-manage your dock rebuild.

For seals themselves — one door or twenty — direct is faster and the money goes into the product instead of the chain.

Read how to measure a dock door, take four numbers and a photo, and send them over. You will get a real price and a real date.

What happens when you call

You get Dave, or you get a callback from Dave. He will ask for the opening width and height, what is above and beside the door, your bumper projection and what backs in. If you have a photo, send it — it answers half the questions before they get asked.

Then you get a price and a date. Not a range, not a “someone will follow up”. If the answer is that a seal is not right for your dock, you get that too.

Freight and pickup

We ship anywhere in the United States. Seals are bulky rather than heavy, so freight is worth asking about up front and we will quote it with the unit rather than surprising you at the end. If you are in East Texas, pick up at the shop on State Highway 64 West and skip it entirely.

If something is wrong

Call the same number. The person who answers is the person who built it, which is the entire point of buying direct. A measurement problem gets sorted out faster when there is nobody in between deciding whose fault it was.
